Teenage members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in all parts of the world use school vacation time to join in educational workshops, cultural presentations, service activities, pioneer treks, dance festivals and spiritual discussions.
At these summer conferences, young men and young women connect to learn more about each other and the beliefs they share. This summer, young Latter-day Saints from across Australia are taking part in several Church-sponsored conferences and other youth events.
Priscilla T. of Sydney is looking forward to attending a faith-focused youth event in Canberra called “Especially For Youth,” starting on 18 January. “Being with other youth is a way for us to encourage and uplift one another,” she said.
“I want to go because it will help me communicate with other young men and women from around New South Wales and will get me away from the computer,” said Joseph B., also from Sydney. “I will probably get a lot of exercise, learn new things and gain new experiences.”
Another Sydney youth, Stephanie L., added: “I want to attend because I'm looking forward to meeting other Latter-day Saint youth, and spending a week away, focused on having fun and on spiritual activities.”
For Stephanie, these types of events comfort and strengthen her, knowing that so many other youth are just like her, facing the pressures of school and friends whilst trying to stay true to the gospel of Jesus Christ.
